Campsite in Skablund Forest

On the north side of Horsens Fjord, you’ll find this apple orchard, which also produces a variety of vegetables and fruits. A roadside stall offers a wide selection of fresh vegetables, apples, and juice from different varieties.

Camp in a tent by the coast

From the village of Sondrup down to Sondrup Beach by Horsens Fjord, you'll find a beautiful, hilly natural area with forests. Here lies Skablund Forest, which stretches all the way to the coast. Where the forest meets Sondrup Beach, a natural campsite has been established on top of a coastal slope. At the campsite, you can pitch tents and use the available facilities, which include a fire pit and firewood. Although the site is only 20 meters from the shoreline, the surrounding trees provide good shelter from the wind.

No reservations

The natural campsite cannot be reserved in advance – it operates on a first-come, first-served basis. The site is reserved for individuals, families, and small groups, with a maximum stay of two nights. Firewood is not provided, but you are welcome to collect branches and twigs from the forest floor or bring firewood from home.

The campsite is marked from the water side. If you arrive by car, you can park nearby at Sondrup Beach's parking lot. There is a toilet building with water access at the parking area.

Wild camping

Wild camping is permitted in Skablund Forest, meaning you can pitch your tent directly on the forest floor. If the campsite is occupied, you can set up your tent in the forest to the north. However, a maximum of two tents per group is allowed, and tents may not be larger than three-person tents.

Setting up tents on the beach is not permitted.

A base for outdoor adventures

Sondrup Beach is a rustic natural beach with a bathing jetty and great opportunities for a swim in the fjord. From the beach, you have a direct view of the island of Alrø, which is connected to the mainland by a dam just a few kilometers from the site. Not far from Sondrup Beach lies Sondrup Hills, one of the most scenic forest areas in East Jutland, offering a hilly landscape and stunning viewpoints.

The natural campsite is close to the popular hiking trail around Horsens Fjord, the Fjordmino, as well as the bicycle route around Horsens Fjord, Culture By Bike (Kulturringen), and National Cycle Route 5 – The East Coast Route.
