The dog forest in Stensballe
The dog forest in Elbæk Forest, located in the Stensballe district of Horsens, is a dog forest in the true sense of the word. Let your dog off its leash and let it roam freely through the forest floor and into the wild nature.
Let the dog loose in the forest
In the northeastern outskirts of Horsens, you find Elbæk Forest – a popular natural area, extending all the way down to Horsens Fjord. The owners of the forest, Stensballegaard Estate, have collaborated with Horsens Municipality on opening a dog forest, wanting to protect the deer of the forest. This is one of the more pristine dog forests of the region, not overflowing with facilities, but providing canines with the opportunity to roam the woods on their own terms.
Hilly dog forest in natural surroundings
Stensballe Dog Forest is fenced in and, approximately, 5 hectares in size. Just don’t expect neat paths, agility courses, toilets, or other man-made facilities. Once the dog is of its leash, it can roam free through the natural forest floor, among the many trees. It is the many scents of nature and the fun, hilly terrain, which makes it appealing.
How to find the dog forest
Since Stensballe Dog Forest is situated in the woods, parking right at the entrance is not possible. Your nearest parking option is located at the end of Elbækskovvej, close to the summer houses. From here, just follow the path into the forest (part of the hiking routes Fjordminoen and The Railway Path Horsens-Odder) for about 200 meters, until you reach the first entrance. Make sure to bring your own pet poop bags, as there are no trash bins or bags available on-site.
About 100 meters in the opposite direction of the dog forest, you encounter the popular beach Husodde Beach. The beach is a Blue Flag beach, meaning dogs are not allowed within 200 meters of the blue flag. However, in the area just east of the beach, there are lots of opportunities for a good doggy swim before heading home.
