Tunø Det Gamle Posthus
This combined art gallery and café at a central location on Tunø offers a cosy outdoor café atmosphere, perfect for enjoying some homemade pastries, delicious craft beers, or a nice glass of wine.
Tunø’s central summer oasis
In the heart of Tunø’s picturesque village stands a charming yellow lime-washed house, which once served as the island’s post office. Today, the building serves a completely different function, benefiting the island’s visitors. During the summer season, you can relax in the garden with a coffee, cake, or cold drink, or head indoors to view the many artworks from various exhibitors.
The gallery
In the art gallery, you’ll find a diverse and varied selection of art. A large portion of the displayed works are visual art, but you may also come across ceramics, jewelry, and more. Some of the exhibitors are local artists, creating works inspired by local motifs, while others come from other parts of the country.
The artists rent space for a short period at a time, meaning there will always be new works and new exhibitors each time you visit the island.
If you find the perfect piece, you can purchase it to take home. All displayed works are for sale and can be bought by contacting the owners.
The café
In a small corner of the gallery, a café has been set up where you can order homemade cakes, tapas, nachos, homemade ice cream cake, and a variety of beverages to enjoy in the garden. The owners of Det Gamle Posthus also run the Stormgaarden microbrewery from Halling near Odder, and their delicious quality beers are, of course, available at the café on Tunø. Additionally, you can purchase wine, freshly brewed coffee, tea, soda, and various drinks.
In the garden, tables and chairs are set up, along with a lovely covered pavilion. There’s always a great atmosphere, and you might be lucky enough to catch some live music during your visit.
