Tunø Viking Camp Tunhalla (Vikingelejr)

Spend your vacation in an all-new way at Tunø Viking camp and rewind time while enjoying the simple island life with other Vikings.

Live as a Viking at Tunø Viking Camp

On Tunø you have the unique opportunity to spend your vacation as a real Viking on a scenic island. On this charming little car-free island in Kattegat, located only an hour with ferry from Hou, the southern beach has been dedicated to a nature camp for Viking-enthusiast. You can stay here alone, with your family, or your friends and settle in the small vibrant Viking-society.

There is only one requirement: everyone in the area must live and dress like a Viking.

It is permitted to bring crafts and artwork and operate a small stall on the square – or find a group of warriors and practice or perform.

Practical conditions

Tunø Viking is run by Tunø harbour and is located near the island’s festival site. When you are in the camp it is therefore possible to use the campsite´s and harbour’s amenities, consisting of a common kitchen, toilets, and baths.

The same rules apply as on the campsite and the marina – keep quiet after 10 pm.
Tunø harbour is responsible for the overall supervision of the site.

You can get water for free at the harbour building. You can buy food and groceries at Tunø Købmandsgård, which is placed in Tunø City, 10 minutes from the site. In addition, Tunø is well known for their roadside stalls with fresh vegetables supplied by local farmers. If you want to split your own firewood, you can make an arrangement with those same farmers, or it can be bought locally.

There will also be access to rafts in varying length which you can borrow. Bring the cord yourselves.
Rubbish must be sorted and put in the containers close to the ferry berth.

At your departure, the site must be completely cleared.

The annual Viking rally

Every year in week 28, you can experience the Viking gathering on Tunø. The event features Viking warriors, workshops, and crafts.

The Viking settlement is open to the public during the day from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM starting Thursday. This gives curious visitors the chance to explore, shop, and participate in workshops. However, in the evening and nighttime, the site is reserved for the Vikings.
