Makværk Festival
Get ready for a festival where children and teenagers can unfold their creativity. Every second year during Week 11, you can attend workshops and activities or listen to talks about the different genres of visual arts. Pull out your pen and fantasy and let yourself be enthralled by a world of art.
A creative explosion of artistic experiences
Every other year in March, Billedskolen (the School of Visual Arts) invites you to Makværk – a celebration of visual art. A variety of the city’s cultural institutions host events and workshops during the festival.
Throughout the week, a wide array of events and activities are offered. Most of them encourage active participation, inviting you to try your hand at different art forms. No prior experience is required – beginners are encouraged to let curiosity guide them through the activities and leave all inhibitions behind.
For example, you can try croquis drawing, linocut printing, macramé, painting with gravy browning, or join events like drink & draw at the festival.
In addition to learning a new visual art form, you can also enjoy music, talks, street art, art installations, and much more.
Plenty of events for children and young people
Billedskolen is based at Kulturstationen, which serves as the main venue for Makværk. During the festival, Kulturstationen transforms into a hub for numerous events and activities designed for children and young people. Every corner of the space is utilized for events, art installations, and sensory experiences.

The Makværk Festival takes place every other year – the next one is scheduled for March 2025. It is an evolution of the Drawing Festival, which has been held in Horsens for many years.
Events and activities are hosted at venues such as Kulturstationen, Horsens Ny Teater, Getsemane Church, Platform K, and Horsens Art Museum.

About Kulturstationen
Kulturstationen Horsens is a cultural center for children and young people. It regularly hosts free weekend activities that are open to all. The doors are always open on weekends, with staff ready to welcome visitors. It’s a great place for children and parents to meet and connect with others.
Kulturstationen is also home to three cultural schools: Billedskolen (the School of Visual Arts), Komediehuset (the Comedy House), and Musik- og Balletskolen (the School of Music and Ballet).
